It’s time for the community to consider the EC’s composition for the forthcoming 12 months. Along with initiating a community vote to elect the next EC members, DCF intends to present two related organizational optimizations.
Over the course of the first two years of the EC’s existence, a number of lessons have been learned. In many ways, the first two years of this governance process has been an exercise in optimization and finding the right fit. Optimization of the risk analysis rationale, and finding the right fit in terms of the skills of the members and their relative activity levels. It is also fair to say that the original design for the EC anticipated a larger protocol and was, to a certain deliberate extent, over-built out of caution and a conservative approach to risk management.
Looking back on the experience of the first two years, we think that certain optimizations of the EC are both appropriate and practical and will position the EC and Inter Protocol for success going forward.
The first optimization involves the size of the EC: DCF suggests that the size of the Economic Committee should be reduced from six to three members. This motion is inspired by the fact that the EC had initially been designed as a six-member entity with the expectation of managing a much larger and more complex protocol than Inter Protocol currently is. The larger-sized EC is not, at the present time, necessary and brings with it increased overhead in terms of time, money and management.
The second optimization is related closely to the first: If there is a smaller EC, then the additional stipend now paid to a member to serve as the EC Secretary no longer makes sense and the position should be eliminated.
All present, members of the EC have been informed of the abovementioned proposal, and we’re pleased to announce that Chloe White, Chris Berg, and Joseph Clark have indicated their willingness to serve another term. DCF affirms that these three EC members have done an excellent job, and the continuation of their service for another term would be the least disruptive option with respect to the health of the protocol. Accordingly, DCF hereby endorses their candidacy to remain EC members for another term (1 year).
Should any community members wish to propose an alternative roster of EC members, they are free to do so. Please do note that all potential candidates must satisfy the criteria described in the forum post About the Econ Committee category.
Note, for historical purposes, the original discussion for electing an EC was posted on Commonwealth and subsequently copied to the forum post Establish an Economic Committee for Inter Protocol.
The EC membership proposal will be open for a discussion period of ten (10) days after which voting will begin on a signaling proposal that reflects this discussion and the feedback gathered from the community.
